Design Award 2010: Registration deadline extended. Companies and designers nominated for the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany 2010 have until August 12, 2009 to apply for the most prestigious German design award. The jury meeting will take place on August 27-28, 2009, and the presentation gala will take place on February 12, 2010 within the framework of the Frankfurt trade fair Ambiente. Design Award exhibition at IFA 2009. Within the framework of the IFA 2009 (Internationale Funkausstellung, the world's largest consumer electronics trade fair) in Berlin, the German Design Council presents the exhibition with the winners of the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany 2009 from September 4-9, 2009. In addition to the award winners of the year 2009 and in cooperation with the IFA, the German Design Council also presents a number of products from the fields of entertainment electronics and household devices that were nominated for the Design Award 2009 and are nominated for 2010. German Brand and Design Congress 2009 in Dresden. "Designing Sustainable Luxury" – under this title, the German Design Council is organizing the first German Brand and Design Congress on November 25-26, 2009 in Dresden. Experts will explain how a strong brand positioning in the luxury segment can be achieved and thus establish the foundations for sustainable competitive advantages. Among the lecturers are Roland Heiler, Porsche Design, Manfredi Ricca, Interbrand Italia, Dr. Christian Kurtzke, Staatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen GmbH, Christian and Michael Sieger, sieger design GmbH & Co. New Walls, Please! 2009. A.S. Création Tapetenstiftung is organizing the competition for tapestries and walls in interiors for young talents for the seventh time. YDMI for Europe 2009. This year, the YDMI Days will take place outside of Germany for the first time. Within the framework of the Abitare il Tempo trade fair from September 17-21, 2009 in Verona, industry representatives will get an exclusive insight into a selection of international young design offices and designers. d3] contest 2010 - The Young Designers Competition. For the seventh time, Koelnmesse in cooperation with the German Design Council invites design students and young graduates from all nations to submit prototypes of their designs from the interior design segment for the competition and exhibition [d3] contest at the imm cologne 2010. Heimtextil: competition for young talents. For the second time, the Heimtextil trade fair in Frankfurt together with Villeroy & Boch and hotelbau organizes the competition for young talents "Young Contract Creations award: Wall." Wanted are facades or interior designs for a bar, café or restaurant in Havana, the partner city of Heimtextil in 2010. Registration deadline is September 30, 2009; submission deadline is October 31, 2009. Designpark HfG Ulm. A design park will be established by 2011 on almost 6,000 square meters on the grounds of the former HfG Ulm; design related companies, designers and cultural and scientific institutions will be able to settle in the design park. Congress designtrans>fair. The Designerinnen Forum e.V. is organizing the congress designtrans>fair from September 11-13, 2009, which aims to stimulate the public design discourse and discourse between the design disciplines. More information and program at http://www.designerinnen-forum.org

Rhineland Palatinate Design Award 2009 – Product Design. The competition documents for this year's Rhineland Palatinate Design Award are now available. "Böse Dinge" at the Werkbundarchiv. With the exhibition entitled "Böse Dinge – Eine Enzyklopädie des Ungeschmacks" ("Bad Things – An encyclopedia of bad taste") the Werkbundarchiv – Museum der Dinge in Berlin presents the collection of the "Errors in Taste" by Gustav Pazaurek, which he started in 1909 in Stuttgart, until November 30, 2009. Copenhagen Design Week. The Copenhagen Design Week will take place from August 27 until September 6, 2009. A comprehensive program with exhibitions, lectures, and events about Danish and international design will be presented. Helsinki Design Week. Under the motto "Do Touch!" the Helsinki Design Week invites visitors from September 4-13, 2009 with a comprehensive exhibition, lecture, conference and seminar program. All information at http://www.helsinkidesignweek.com

Lisbon: ExperimentaDesign. The Biennale ExperimentaDesign will take place this year from September 9 until November 8, 2009 in Lisbon, celebrating its fifth round. "Tent London" is one of the most extensive exhibitions at this year's London Design Festival. Part of it is the Talent Zone, for which young designers can apply until August 7, 2009. Exhibition "120 Years of Bahlsen." The exhibition entitled "120 Jahre Bahlsen" ("120 Years of Bahlsen") offers a tour through the history of packaging from August 13 until November 15, 2009 at the Museum August Kestner in Hanover. More information at http://www.museum-august-kestner.de

ADBK presentation: "Remember how beautiful you are." In cooperation with the Neues Museum, the Neue Sammlung for the first time presents an art class from the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Nuremberg. The class of Professor Holger Felten and Professor Friederike Girst curated an exhibition entitled "Remember how beautiful you are" (Denk daran wie schön du bist) from July 2 until October 30, 2009. In room 11 of the House Collection, almost 29 students from the graphic design/visual communications department present selected works from the last two semesters. Catwalks – The most spectacular fashion shows. The NRW-Forum in Düsseldorf presents the most spectacular catwalks of the top designers as a theatrical staging from July 26 until October 1, 2009. The theater used to be a place of fashion, but the fashion world became independent over the course of time and produced its own idols. In order to comply with their standards, the fashion shows became bigger, the catwalk became a stage, and soon the place for pure self-presentation. The NRW-Forum presents these rooms, allows visitors to become models, and takes them on the catwalk through the world of fashion shows. Exhibition: Entre deux actes – Loge de comédienne. Until October 11, 2009, the Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden presents a group show with the title "Entre deux actes – Loge de comedienne" in which ten contemporary artists rediscover French designer Janette Laverrière and her headstrong objects and artistic interiors. The starting point for the exhibition is the wardrobe of an actress from Entre deux actes - Loge de comedienne, an interior by Janette Laverrière from 1947. Laverrière has been designing furniture and mirror objects for more than seen decades. Graffiti exhibition: Born in the Streets. Until November 29, 2009 the Fondation Cartier in Paris presents an exhibition about graffiti and street art in "Born in the Streets." "Do The Stars Need a Reason to Shine" Under this title, the Berlin Krome Gallery presents the first solo exhibition of graphic designer Markus Weisbeck until September 11, 2009. "25 Years of Lürzer's Archive." At the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Lürzer's Archive a special featuring the advertising highlights of the past quarter century has been published. In addition, the special also pursues the question about how the advertising industry has changed over the past 25 years. New design magazine. "Design made in Germany" is the title of a new design magazine, which is published in HTML and PDF format and regularly presents new and interesting projects by German agencies, graphic design offices, and designers. New online platform: Designkritik. At the URL http://www.designkritik.dk an online platform dedicated to the critical discussion about design has been available for a short time. A monthly column in the design magazine Novum, which deals with current issues that will be further discussed on the online platform, accompanies the platform.  

Cargo Packs 2020 was the subject of this year's VisionWorks Award, for which Bayer MaterialScience together with other partners invited five design academies from Europe. The goal was to develop trend-setting cargo packaging. The awards were presented at the end of July 2009. Bergische Universität Wuppertal: Summer School. The Bergische Universität Wuppertal is holding its Summer School "Design Walks – Value Through Less" from September 27 until October 4, 2009 at the Nikolaus monastery in Jüchen. Digital Summer 2009. The Digital Summer of the Berliner Universität der Künste (UdK) this year is taking place for the fifth time and deals with current developments in the digital communication segment. This year, HR marketing online, digital storytelling and the design of intercultural websites are the focus of the event. Dornier Museum opens. The new Dornier Museum officially opened at the end of July 2009 in Friedrichshafen/Lake Constance. On a floor space of 5,000 square meters visitors can experience 100 years of aerospace technology in a historical context. The museum is structured into three divisions. The Museum box presents more than 100 years of aerospace technology alternating with contemporary history as well as the most important stages of the development of Dornier. The gallery is dedicated to technological backgrounds. In the hangar, numerous large-scale exhibits, among them classics like the Do 27, the legendary vertical lift aircraft Do 31 and the reconstruction of the Merkur are on display. Bicycles for Lance Armstrong. Lance Armstrong completed the 2009 Tour de France on bicycles designed by Damien Hirst, Marc Newson, KAWS, Kenny Scharf, Shepard Fairey, and Yoshimoto Nara. Thalys trains receive new design. The Thalys trains PBKA (Paris Brussels Cologne Amsterdam) have been redesigned both inside and out. Red continues to be the dominant color but with various gradations. New solutions were developed for seating comfort and the technical equipment at the seats.
